Experience in one to one coaching

As a former school principal Máire has vast experience coaching senior leaders across the education sector. She held the position of principal of a large post-primary school for 11 years and deputy principal for 7 years. From 2015 Máire held the position of National Deputy Director of the Centre for School Leadership with direct responsibility for the introduction of the coaching support for school principals in Ireland. Máire was instrumental in designing and delivering a mentoring/coaching programme for experienced school leaders to assist them to mentor newly appointed principals. Since 2020 Maire has had direct experience of mentoring and coaching newly appointed leaders in schools across the country. This approach has enabled the leaders to improve their relationships with their fellow leaders, develop the middle leaders within their schools and to have difficult conversations with others in the school community. In addition, Maire’s experience as a mediator has allowed her to address issues of conflict in schools and to support leaders in addressing conflict situations. She has helped school leaders to develop their self-awareness, identify areas of strength and areas of improvement. She consistently receives positive feedback from principals and deputy principals who appreciate being listened to, being coached to develop new perspectives and appreciate her insights into the realities of school leadership. As the chairperson of two Post Primary School Boards of Management, Máire fosters a coaching approach when working with both principals. In addition to her extensive education experience, Máire has also coached senior executives across the health sector and in industry.

Team Coaching Experience: – Máire was the Education and Leadership Officer (Director of Schools) for Louth Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB) from 2013-2015, during this time she was responsible for supporting twenty post-primary principals (DEIS and non-DEIS schools), a community national school and an international school setting. She supported the senior leadership teams and boards of management using a team coaching approach. Máire coached principals to adopt a leadership ethos within their schools and following successful coaching with Máire principals learned to coach their own senior leadership teams. Máire works with the team to:
- Develop their leadership skills
- Time Management Skills - Strategic Planning
- Conflict Management Skills

Testimonial
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to have worked one on one with Máire. I found our sessions to be of enormous benefit. She created a space where it was safe to open up, address issues, talk things through and come away with practical strategies. I really benefited professionally and personally from our time and could not commend or recommend Máire enough.”
